Planting Hope, Growing Futures — Sri Prakash’s Green Initiative
Sri Prakash, one of the best schools following the Cambridge and CBSE Curricula in Visakhapatnam, has always believed that protecting nature is not just an act of kindness but a responsibility we all share. The institution constantly strives to nurture socially responsible and environmentally conscious citizens through meaningful programs and awareness campaigns that inspire students to live in harmony with nature.
Continuing this tradition, the school has organized the distribution of Hibiscus (Mandaram) saplings , a simple yet impactful step toward building a greener and healthier environment.
The Hibiscus, or Mandaram, is a vibrant, evergreen shrub or small tree that grows between 1.5 to 3 meters tall. With its dark green, glossy leaves and large, showy flowers, it brings beauty and freshness wherever it grows. These blooms, which open during the day and close at night, appear in a variety of colors — red, pink, white, yellow, and even dual shades that shift hues throughout the day. The plant thrives in full sunlight and fertile, well-drained soil, requiring regular watering and monthly organic fertilization.
Beyond its beauty, the Hibiscus is a plant of great benefit and cultural significance. In Ayurveda, it is known to promote hair growth and enhance skin health. Its tea, made from dried petals, is rich in antioxidants that help regulate blood pressure and cholesterol. The red hibiscus holds deep spiritual importance in Hindu traditions, offered to Goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha as a symbol of purity, energy, and devotion. It is also used in making herbal teas, jams, and sauces, adding both flavor and nutrition to daily life.
By planting Hibiscus saplings, we are not just adding color to our surroundings . We are sowing seeds of hope and sustainability. Every sapling represents a promise to protect the planet and create a safe, green future for generations to come.
Sri Prakash has undertaken the ambitious mission of distributing one lakh saplings, with 46,219 already distributed so far. Each plant symbolizes collective effort, responsibility, and love for nature.
Adding more significance to this noble cause, Circle Inspector of Police, Sri A. Dasaradhi ,Sri B.Tirumala Rao and Mr Sourav Majumdar Scientist F,at DRDO,NSTL took part in the initiative and addressed the students . Sri A.Dasaradhi and Sri B.Tirumala Rao reminded them that they are the future leaders and caretakers of this world. They encouraged students to listen to their parents, respect teachers and elders, and stay away from negative influences such as addiction to social media, and other harmful habits. They emphasized the importance of hardwork , discipline, and setting clear goals for holistic development intellectually, emotionally, and morally. They also highlighted that being human means thinking beyond oneself, caring for society, and serving the nation.
Mr Sourav Majumdar explained to the children about the growth, diseases, and history of the Mandharam plant. He emphasized the importance of growing plants and caring for them in their own unique ways, while also highlighting necessary precautions. Practical tips were shared to help improve the plant’s growth. Before concluding, they expressed their hope to see the plant well cared for by the children after a year.
Through this initiative, Sri Prakash continues to plant not just trees, but values and dreams that will grow into a greener, brighter tomorrow.
